What are plants?
Plants are living Organisms. They cover much of the surface of our Planet. Without them life as we know it would not exist. Because Plants are the start of every food chain and they release much of the Oxygen present in the atmosphere.
Plants include trees, flowers, bushes, grasses, mosses, ferns and much more. You can see them all around you. Plants belong to the Kingdom Plantae.
How plants grow?
Almost all plants grow from a tiny seed. A seed can take days, months or even years to start growing. The seed contains the embryo, the basic part from which a plant sapling forms. It also contains food for the embryo. Under right conditions ie. Dampness, darkness and the right temperature the seed sprouts. It starts to absorb more water from its surrounding and starts to grow roots. Next its tiny stem is formed which finds it’s way above the group. There is starts to grow leaves and eventually forms into a big plant or tree.
Parts of a Plant
The four main parts of a plant are its roots, stem, leaves and the flower. Each part has a specific job to do.
Roots are there to keep the plant grounded and they also provide important nutrient and water to the plant from the soil.
Stem carries the water and nutrients to the other different parts of the plant.
Leaves make food for the plant by absorbing sunlight and taking in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This amazing process is called Photosynthesis.
Flowers help in reproduction for the plant. For this a process called Pollination takes place.
