Today when i went to pick up my daughter from school she told me they have started reading Eric Carle books in their class for author study. Now this was exciting news for both of us because he happens to be our most favorite author. We have read many of his books together and enjoyed them a lot. So the moment we got home she begged me to read her the The very hungry caterpillar. As she is now 7 yrs old she can read it all by herself but still loves to hear it from me. While i was reading it i decided we needed to do a craft project around it. I asked my daughter would she like to make a caterpillar with me and of course she was super excited. What kid doesn’t like to cut paste and make a mess!! Though to be honest it was super easy to make the hungry caterpillar and mostly mess free. We were done in 10 min!!! We enjoyed making it so much and hope you enjoy it too. Happy Crafting!!!
Materials for hungry caterpillar:
- Green construction paper
- Red construction paper
- Black construction paper (tiny piece)
- Stapler (optional)
- Googley eyes
- Black marker
Instructions for hungry caterpillar:
1.Cut the green construction paper into 6 thick strips of 3 inch width and 7 inch length. Cut 1 strip of red construction paper for the head of the hungry caterpillar. You can cut as many green strips as you want. We have to the make a paper chain out of them. Longer caterpillar is more fun to play with!!
2. Roll the green stripe and glue or staple the edges together. We quickly realized stapler was better option.
3. Make a paper chain of the green stripes.
4. Now attach the red one to green paper chain like shown below:
5. Glue on the googley eyes and make a nose with black marker.
6. Attach black antennas for the hungry caterpillar from black construction paper.
And your very hungry caterpillar is ready to play with. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. If you are looking for other easy paper crafts for kids please look at Swimmy the easy paper fish and Pam, Sam and Kim: The grouchy Lady Bugs. Happy Crafting everyone!!!
